If Henri Didn’t Do It, Who Did?

7-45am

It’s been 9 days since three members of the van Breda family were murdered in a gruesome home attack. I have watched the news reports, each and everyone, as the days have passed. I’m not sure what the police are waiting for – it seems to be taking a very long time for anything to be happening from their side.

There are two survivors. Marli, who was seriously injured and quite possibly will have very little memory of what exactly happened. According to newspaper reports, she is in hospital and under police guard. Henri is the other survivor – the second son – 20 years old – who walked away with a few scratches and bruises, but no life threatening injuries.

There was no forced entry.

There was no breach of security at the estate that night.

No shouting or other noise was heard.

On the morning of Tuesday 27th January, Henri was found sitting on the curb outside his house in De Zalze Winelands Estate, Stellenbosch. He had made a 5 minute call to emergency services. According to witnesses, he appeared dazed, with a bruise on his head. Apparently there was no blood on him.

It is highly suspicious that he got off so lightly, raising questions as to whether Henri was the perpetrator of this heinous attack. Adding to this suspicion, this morning this report was released by News 24…

News 24 report

If Henri did not commit the murders, here are a few questions:

1. Why have police not released an identikit of the intruder. Henri must have seen him as he says his family were attacked by a guy with an axe.

2. Why has Henri not been allowed to see Marli? If this was my younger sister and the rest of our family had just been murdered, my natural instinct would be to spend as much time with my surviving sibling – at her bedside for most the day – protective over her.

3. Why has Henri not been allowed to make a statement to the media? He’s 20 years old – he should be doing everything within his power to put the word out there to find the killer.

4. If Marli needs a police guard, why doesn’t Henri?

None of it makes sense. We live in a country where crime is rife. People leave South Africa all the time because of the crime rate. When something of this magnitude happens at an exclusive gated, security village, it puts, again, our beautiful, but beleaguered land in the spotlight.

If there is a murderer on the loose, please let the public know. We need to take extra measures to protect ourselves.

If there is another suspect known to the police, please arrest him and let the world know that this is not some violent criminal, but a deranged killer responsible for a dreadful family murder. It could be Henri, a friend of Henri’s or someone staying at the house or on the estate.

But saying nothing and hiding the truth is not helpful. Even if the police don’t want to say anything because it will jeopardize the case, have a press conference and say that!

It’s tragic, it’s devastating, it’s gruesome to the extreme. I think about it often and it both saddens and sickens me.

1 John 1:8

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

The truth has to come out.

Pray.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga
