Detoxing

For a while I’ve wanted to get off my mini-dependency on coffee. I wanted to be able to not have coffee for a day or two and not get a fat headache. I weaned myself off it. I cut down to 1 cappuccino a day and then had 3/4 a day and eventually was able to skip a day with minimal side effects. With that success, I could do what is a great thing to do once or twice a year and detox. My last solid meal was Friday evening when I had trout and veggies. Since then, it’s been fluids only.

Herbal tea starts the day and then I have the green juice…

Greens juicedSqueezed fresh and daily from my local Food Lovers, it’s packed with greens…

Ingredients and costSaturday (yesterday) was my first day. I felt good. I kept up with fluids throughout the day and hardly felt hungry. In the afternoon, I had the red juice…

Red juice mainly beetrootThis too is packed with healthy raw veggies – the culprit of the colour lies in its beetroot content. I could drink this ALL day. I love it!

Red juiceFor dinner, I had soup.

By this morning, I was feeling very good. No headaches, alert, energised. No problem. Today, I had more soup for lunch and I’ve had a couple of glasses of the juice with water in between. I felt a bit sleepy this afternoon, so went for a 15 minute walk in the beautiful sunshine. It has just been what I have needed.

I have never properly detoxed. Today is Day 2. Tomorrow is day 3 – I’ll see how I feel after that. I may push it to a week.

There’s lots to be seen online about detoxing and three days seems too little to discover the true benefits. Ten days seems it could be a bit more effective. Daniel in the Old Testament was supposed to be eating ‘royal food’. He spoke to the King’s servant and said,

Daniel 1:12-16
12 “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.” 14 So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days. 15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. 16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.

It’s a good time to give it a try!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga 🙂
